Herefter lægges posen i køleskab i ca. 2-3 måneder.
Efter denne kuldeperiode kan frøene sås. De stilles til spiring udendørs på et ikke for varmt sted.
Frøene kan alternativt også sås på voksestedet i efteråret(oktober-december), eller de kan sås i potter, der overvintres udendørs.

Sowing advice: B. COVER WITH COMPOST OR GRIT 5mm. DEEP. KEEP MOIST IN A COOL, COVERED LIGHT SPOT OUTSIDE. NO HEAT NEEDED. OFTEN SPRING GERMINATORS. GROW ON SEEDLINGS IN 3" POTS. PLANT OUT IN GOOD GARDEN SOIL.

Germination: For these bigger hard-shelled seeds, mechanical damaging of the shell is helpful for quicker swelling. One method is to grind the seed in dry sharp sand. They can also be treated for several hours in a "softener" (Polyethylenglycol 6000), which is used for the production of plastic material.
The sowing must be kept warm (about +18 to 22°C) (about 64 to 72°F) and moist for the first 2-4 weeks. After this period the sowing must be kept at a cold temperature (between -4 and +4°C) (between 25 and 39°F) for another 4-6 weeks. It is not so important if the temperature is higher of lower during the cooling period, but the cooling period has to be prolonged because the synthesis of the germination inducer, homonlike acid, slows down or comes to a standstill.
It is beneficial to
cover the sowing with snow during the cooling period. After this cooling period the sowing may not be immediately exposed to high temperatures. The most effective temperatures are between +5 to 12°C (41 to 54°F), even if germination has started. The best location for this sowing, even in March, April and May, is open field, the cold frame or a cold greenhouse.
Scheduling:Best Sowing Dates: November - March
Sowing to Germination: 8 - 10 weeks
Germination to Transplant: 4 - 8 weeks

Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Best sown as soon as it is ripe in a cold frame. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots when they are large enough to handle and grow them on in the greenhouse or cold frame for their first year. Plant out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer.Grow in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun to light, dappled shade. Soil should remain consistently moist. The plant benefits from shallow mulching in spring. Division is best done in August/September after flowering but can also be done in April.
